DMAA Video Production Update
EDHS VIDEO PRODUCTION UPDATE 2/28/21
El Dorado’s Video Production Pathway has had a successful year so far, despite the challenges of remote school, hybrid cohorts, filming with cell phone cameras, and editing at home using a variety of different editing software. We have continued to learn the basics of broadcast journalism, narrative filmmaking and live-events videography. And most importantly, we continue to tell the stories that need telling.
UPCOMING EVENTS AND DEADLINES:
The El Dorado Film Festival will begin accepting entries on March 12th. All EDHS students can submit entries online @ https://filmfreeway.com/EDHSFilmFestival. Categories include SHORT FILM, MUSIC VIDEO, DOCUMENTARY, SPOT-FEATURE, EXPERIMENTAL FILM, PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT, PROMO/COMMERCIAL, and ANIMATION. Check the website for more info, new announcements and upcoming deadlines. The screening is scheduled to take place on May 22nd.
ADVANCED VIDEO and HONORS FILM:
Hawk Talk aired their 18th episode of the year on February 19th. If you aren’t watching Hawk Talk yet, you can always find us online on our YouTube Channel @ www.youtube.com/edhsvideoproduction. The advanced/honors film students recently completed their fall creative projects and our filmmaking students have just selected a handful of films to go into production in March. On the video yearbook side, we have been busy filming sports practices every day for the past 3 weeks and are gearing up to film some actual competitions in the weeks to come. Earlier this year, advanced film students Bella Lazaro, Emily Allsup, Annabelle Shea and Dorna Mohajeri earned 2nd place in the Student Television Network’s national spot-feature category at their Fall Nationals with their film, “Clarity.” -
VIDEO 1 and MEDIA PRODUCTION:
Our DMAA Media Production and Video 1 students have earned a number of honors already this year: Earlier this fall-2020, three DMAA filmmakers earned recognition from the PTSA Reflections Completion. Senior Kaylee Smith and freshman Madi Duffey were named EDHS runner-ups and DMAA freshman Samantha Mar was named the winner for EDHS and moved on to the regional PTA competition.
three DMAA freshmen in the Video Production Pathway won film awards from Directing Change in their first month at El Dorado High School! Cooper Cuya had the 2nd place video in the "What This Election Means to Me" category with his video, "A Vote For The Future" - https://vimeo.com/467698796. Katie Park earned an Honorable Mention for her video, "Living Hope" https://vimeo.com/467698192 in the Hope & Justice Category. And, Charis Park earned an Honorable Mention for her video, "Hope in a Pandemic" https://vimeo.com/467698267 also in the Hope & Justice Category.
The Video 1 and Media Production students have completed over a dozen projects so far this year. Most recently, they just completed public service announcements related to mental health for the Directing Change 2021 project.
