MOCK TRIAL (The Movie) Free Screening - Tuesday 8-11-26

The ED LAW Academy, the El Dorado High School Digital Media Arts Academy and the El Dorado Theatre Department, are beyond excited to invite you to a special free community screening of Mock Trial, the new feature film written and directed by El Dorado High School graduate Jessica McKenna (’05).

• Admission is FREE

• Runtime of the movie is one hour and 43 minutes

• Jessica McKenna will be available after the film for Q & A

Mock Trial is a semi-scripted, semi-improvised comedy mockumentary about the intense world of high school mock trial competition—a heartfelt and hilarious look at the passions, friendships, and unforgettable experiences that shape us during our teenage years. Written by Jessica McKenna and her creative partner Zach Reino, the film blends sharp comedy with genuine heart and features an outstanding ensemble cast. (imdb.com)

This screening is especially meaningful for the El Dorado community because Jessica’s roots are here.

While at El Dorado, Jessica was an outstanding Mock Trial, Theater student, and academic superstar, and was honored as the 2005 EDHS Hawk of the Year. After graduating, she attended Northwestern University before launching an impressive career in comedy, improvisation, television, voice acting, and writing.

Many fans know Jessica as the co-creator and co-host of the hit improvised musical podcast and live touring show Off Book, which is currently touring across North America with Zach Reino. Together they wrote Mock Trial, with Jessica also making her feature film directorial debut.

She has also become one of animation’s most recognizable voice actors, with roles in Craig of the Creek, Voltron: Legendary Defender, Little Big Awesome, The Mighty Ones, and DC Super Hero Girls, among many others.

There are also a few fun local connections you’ll want to watch for on screen! The film features appearances from almost the entire Cavalluzzi family (Sunshine, Tony, Lucy, and JD) along with a brief cameo by Owen Switzer.  Portions of the movie were filmed on campus at El Dorado High School, and several DMAA students served as Production Assistants during filming.

Whether you’re an El Dorado student, alumni, film lover, or simply enjoy great comedy, this is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate one of our own and experience a film created by an EDHS graduate who has gone on to make a remarkable impact in the entertainment industry.
