WestFlix Film Festival and Workshops

Upcoming Event for Future Filmmakers - Harvard-Westlake presents WestFlix - March 18-19, 2016

El Dorado does not have an entry this year, but this is still a cool event to attend. It is free and there are two events here. The film festival is March 18 and the Day After workshops are March 19. Both events are free to attend if you go to their website and sign up. Aaron Sorkin will be at both events.

WestFlix (formerly Harvard-Westlake Film Festival) celebrates its 13th year presenting the best teen films in California. This year features 15 films by students from 13 different schools/programs. The festival screening takes place Friday, March 18, at 7 pm at the ArcLight Cinemas in Hollywood. Screenwriter Aaron Sorkin P’19 (Steve Jobs, The Social Network, West Wing) offers opening remarks. A reception takes place after the screening. The event is free and open to the public. Advanced ticket reservations are highly encouraged.

On Saturday, March 19, 9:30 am - 3:00 pm, the festival continues with The Day After, an opportunity for high school film students to engage in fruitful conversation about their work and learn from industry professionals. Aaron Sorkin begins the day discussing the students’ films as well as the art of screenwriting. In the afternoon, participants enjoy workshops on cinematography with Lance Acord (Lost in Translation, Where the Wild Things Are) and producing with Alexandra Milchan (Wolf of Wall Street) or Scott Lambert (The Fighter). Breakfast and lunch are provided. The Day After is open to all high school students and their teachers. Reservations are highly encouraged.

Tickets are offered in advance on a first-come, first-served basis. Go to hw.com/westflix to read more about the film line-up and to reserve tickets for the Screening and The Day After.
